About 7:30 p.m, Friday 31st December 2010, a bomb blast tore through a beer garden at Mogadishu Cantonment Barracks in Abuja. Nigeria Television Authority reported 30 people died from the bomb blast, whiles police spokesman dispute that claim.
This is the second bombing occurring just this month, after the Christmas Eve’s bombing in Jos killing dozens of people. Nobody has claimed responsibility for the blast.
“It’s unfortunate that some people planted (a) bomb where people are relaxing because of the New Year,” police chief, Air Marshal Oluseyi Petirin told journalists. “Nobody has been able to give accurate figures (of casualties), but we have rescued some people.”
In a statement, a spokesman for President Goodluck Jonathan said whoever planted the bomb wanted “to turn the joys of fellow Nigerians to ashes.”
The country has suffered 3 gruesome bombings in the last quarter of this year. We send our condolence to the families of the deceased and pray the new trend of militia activities come to an end. Our country cannot enter the New Year with bomb blasts killing innocent souls.
Nigeria Must Stand Up As One People!
Happy New Year to our readers
